Teaching philosophy
I believe teaching is a reciprocal process, as we teach, we continue to learn. I believe in nurturing children’s individual strengths and empowering them to embrace their challenges. I believe in creating critical thinkers who embrace learning. Teaching involves supporting the evolving needs of our students as they grow intellectually, physically, and emotionally. I believe in supporting students as individuals, multiple modalities allow learners to access material in ways meaningful to them. Thus, creating a what Dewey called “theory of inquiry and experience as the impetus to learn through sensory stimuli and motor exploration. Teaching for creative thinking benefits students at all levels and in every academic discipline. With this in mind, visual art is uniquely positioned to positively influence not just what students learn but how they learn as well.
