HOIC
The HOIC or Heart of Illinois Conference is a special development opportunity for preservice teachers at Illinois State University. A day-long program of art curriculum is taught by visual arts education students to central Illinois high school students. Day provides ISU preservice teachers with hands-on lesson development and implementation in front of students and builds the visual arts teaching community in the region and state.
Literacy handout
For the 2020 conference the lesson we taught involved egg tempera iconography. The ancient technique was used to incorporate history and contemporary ideas about what constitutes an icon. The students designed their own contemporary icon, something that incapsulates an essential truism about our current culture.
